Strategic Spray Foam Insulation
While many homeowners don’t think about the attic, it’s actually one of the best places to insulate a house. Proper attic insulation helps to reduce energy costs by keeping heat in during the winter and out during the summer. This minimizes the workload of the HVAC system and results in lower energy bills. In addition, a well-insulated attic can help to prevent mold and mildew growth.
Signs Your Attic Needs Insulation: Strategic Spray Foam Insights
There are four types of attic Insulation Contractor: blanket, cellulose, mineral wool, and spray foam. Blanket insulation comes in rolls or pre-cut panels known as “batts.” It’s made of fiberglass, natural and synthetic fibers, and mineral wool. It is inexpensive and easy to install. However, it can be damaged by moisture which diminishes its R-value. Cellulose, which is made from recycled paper, has a higher R-value but may be flammable, so it must be treated with ammonium sulfate or borate to make it fire-resistant. It can be blown or sprayed into attics and walls. Mineral wool is also a good choice because it is made from rock minerals and offers superior thermal and sound insulation.
Spray foam is an alternative to other attic insulation materials. It is a liquid that expands when it’s sprayed into attics and walls. It can be open- or closed-cell and is very effective in sealing cracks and gaps. It has a high R-value and is cost-effective. It can be toxic if it gets on the skin, so it must be handled with care and protective equipment is recommended.
